A Movement Systems Workshop

at LshVa Studios, Koramangala
Workshop Description Contemporary dance partnering workshop, where participants will work in pairs and be lead through a series of essential contact technique exercises, that will allow each and every dancer to fly, spiral, lift, tumble and play. Building on a series of essential partnering skills, participants will then have the opportunity to learn Chhaya Collective’s duet choreography, to be performed at the end of the workshop.
Suitable for Participants with experience of contemporary dance practice and minimal experience of contact techniques. Age: 16+ / or 18+
Kay Kay Crook is a freelance dance artist and director of Chhaya Collective, a contemporary dance company working between UK and India since 2013. Work includes Antara (2013, Interwoven Productions, Asian Arts Agency), Falling Light Project (2014), and Falling Light in Liminal Spaces (2015), a duet with Indian dance artist, Ajeesh Balakrishnan, which toured Portugal and UK in 2015. In 2016 Kay choreographed a full length production, Time & Tide in collaboration with filmmaker David Snowden, Musician Cameron Murray and cast of six dancers, which premiered in Lisbon and Santarém (Portugal) in Autumn 2016. In 2017 Chhaya Collective will be developing a new duet work in residency with Rakesh Sukesh in Germany.
Kay also works as a dancer for Heather Walrond Company, touring The Rising nationally and internationally in 2016/17, and SpinDrift Dance Company (UK). Kay has taught in collaboration with Exeter Phoenix, Earthfall Dance, Attakkalari, Falmouth University, Bridgwater College, Tacchi Morris, Dartington Arts, Cygnet Theatre and in 2017 will be working with Shoonya, Lshva (India) and State of Emergency (UK).
Kay toured the UK with Map Dance Company in 2011, working with choreographers Ben Duke (Lost Dog), Darren Ellis (RADC and Random) Yaara Dolev (Tel Aviv), Gregory Maqoma and Rose English. She achieved a Masters in Dance Performance (2011) and a First Class BA hons in Dance at The University of Chichester, receiving the ‘Lea Anderson Award for Choreographic Excellence’ (2010) and the ‘Valerie Briginshaw award for Dance writing and Academic Excellence’ (2012).
